History of Spring Valley Church

Spring Valley Baptist church was organized July 10, 1848 at Brush Creek Schoolhouse in Madison County.  The original name of the church was the United Baptist Church of Brush Creek.

The work of the church was interrupted during the Civil War and was reorganized on January 6, 1866.  In 1867, a church building was built.

This structure was destroyed by fire in 1869.  The church then met at the Little Spring School House believed to be near the Hindsville Lake area.

In March 1871 the church began holding services at the Spring Valley Schoolhouse.  The present building was erected in 1912, and was dedicated the following year.  Due to the poor condition of the building the church met in the Spring Valley School House for years.  In 1991 renovation and modernization of the building was started and completed in 1993.  The first service in the newly restored building was July 4, 1993.
